Barnes was on holiday with his family in Santorini, but his flight to the Spanish capital was cancelled so he was forced to take a marathon detour. The 55-year-old flew to Athens before catching a connecting flight to Barcelona, where he was due to board a train. But Barnes arrived at the station in Barcelona at 2am, three hours before his train, and two hours before the doors opened. He told theLiverpoolEcho: “I was with my family in Santorini, I had to be here at 8:30am on Thursday morning. The Liverpool squad train in Madrid ahead of the Champions League Finalgetty2

“My flight from Santorini got cancelled, so I then had to fly from Santorini to Athens, from Athens to Barcelona.“I got to Barcelona at 2am, I had to get a train to Madrid, it was not until 5am, the train station is not open until 4am.From 2am until 4am I was lying on the floor outside the train station with a lot of homeless people before the train station opened.“That’s how committed I was to getting here.” While Barnes was willing to go to the ends of the earth for his side, the former England international could not resist having a cheeky dig at his former Liverpool teammate Ian Rush.“I am not going to mention any names, about other divas who played for Liverpool, my former teammates who would have wanted to be in a five star hotel,” he said.“I slept on the floor of the train station for three hours, that is how much of a fan I am. I am not going to say who wouldn’t have done it… Ian Rush… But apart from that, that is my commitment to the cause.”

Both clubs seem to have found a way so that the 4 million could be paid without appearing in the document. A second contract signed at the same time provides that Manchester United invites Monaco for a friendly match a year later, in July 2015, on the sole condition that the English club finish in the first four places of the championship.
